What our time at Tinzwe Villa in Victoria Falls revealed about the gap between a great guest experience and a great digital presence.

Every hospitality owner has asked this question at some point.
"If our property is beautiful, why aren't more people booking?"
The instinct is often to blame the algorithm, the season, or increased competition.
But after working with hospitality brands across Southern Africa, we've noticed something else.
Most properties don't have an accommodation problem.
They have a communication problem.
Recently, we travelled to Victoria Falls to work with Tinzwe Villa, a boutique property that offers a peaceful, thoughtfully designed stay just minutes from one of Africa's greatest natural wonders.
Our brief was straightforward: create photography and video content.
What we left with was something much more valuable
A reminder that in today's hospitality industry, beautiful spaces don't automatically become desirable destinations online.
Guests Book Stories Before They Book Rooms
The internet has made beautiful accommodation abundant.
Every day, travellers scroll past luxury villas, boutique hotels, safari lodges and Airbnbs with stunning interiors and polished photography.
Beauty alone is no longer a competitive advantage.
What influences a booking is whether a guest can imagine themselves there.
Can they picture a slow morning with coffee on the patio?
Can they understand what makes this stay different from the next property?
Can they trust that the experience they see online is the experience they'll have when they arrive?
Those questions are answered through storytelling, not square metres.
Looking Beyond the Lens
Before we picked up a camera, we observed.
We experienced the property as guests would.
We paid attention to the arrival, the atmosphere, the small design details, the surrounding neighbourhood, the conversations, and the moments that made the villa feel memorable.
Only then did we begin documenting it.
This approach changes everything.
Instead of producing a gallery of attractive images, we create visual assets that help future guests understand what staying there actually feels like.
The camera records the experience.
It shouldn't have to invent one.
What We Found
As we created content for Tinzwe Villa, we also identified opportunities common to many hospitality businesses.
The property already had strong foundations.
What it needed was a stronger digital narrative.
Some of our recommendations included:
- Show guests more than rooms by telling the story of the complete stay.
- Highlight proximity to Victoria Falls and nearby experiences earlier in the customer journey.
- Build Instagram Highlights that answer practical questions before they're asked.
- Create content around moments, not just spaces, from morning coffee to evening relaxation.
- Encourage guest-generated content and testimonials to reinforce trust.
- Develop a consistent content system rather than posting only when new photos are available.
None of these recommendations required expensive renovations or major investment.
They required intention.
The Hidden Cost of an Unclear Story
A hospitality business can deliver an exceptional guest experience and still lose bookings if that experience isn't communicated effectively.
We've seen beautiful properties with excellent service struggle to stand out because their online presence focuses on features instead of feelings.
Travellers don't remember room dimensions.
They remember how a place made them imagine their holiday.
That's the difference between marketing accommodation and marketing an experience.
Beyond Content Creation
Photography and video were the final output of this project.
They were not the starting point.
The real work began with observation, conversation and understanding how the business wanted to be perceived.
That's why every hospitality project we take on includes strategic thinking alongside creative production.
Because content without context rarely changes a business.
A Lesson for the Hospitality Industry
Working with Tinzwe Villa reinforced something we believe deeply.
The next generation of successful hospitality brands won't necessarily be the ones with the biggest marketing budgets.
They'll be the ones that make it easiest for guests to understand, trust, and emotionally connect with their experience before they arrive.
The brands that win won't simply be the most visible.
They'll be the most memorable.
At uMuntu Spaces, that's the work we're committed to.
Not just creating beautiful content.
Helping African hospitality brands become easier to discover, understand and choose.
